Tennessee Anesthesiologist Dies in Florida Fishing Accident

An anesthesiologist from Cookeville, Tenn., was fatally injured while vacationing with family last week, according to a Herald Citizen report.

Ollie Macon Smithwick, MD, was vacationing in Key West, Fla., where he died in a diving accident, according to the Monroe County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office. Dr. Smithwick was reportedly found unresponsive in the water after spearfishing with two friends.
Dr. Smithwick worked as an anesthesiologist at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
