Researchers conducted a survey at a U.S. academic hospital in 2010 and asked 78 subjects to estimate characteristics of their turnover times in 2009. Responses were then compared to the actual times.
The study concluded that perception of turnover times were influenced by opinion of team activity during shift change, and time of day influenced perception of turnovers. According to the researchers, managers should not interpret comments about turnover times as literally referring to the time, but instead as factors perceived as contributing to the time.
