A federal judge has ruled that the Federal Trade Commission may proceed with a lawsuit against anesthesiology practice manager U.S. Anesthesia Partners, but its creator, private equity firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe, may be dismissed from the case. 

The highest-paid anesthesiologist in Cleveland earns $644,900 per year, according to Medscape's salary reporter tool, which is much higher than the mean annual wage of $339,470 anesthesiologists make according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

As anesthesiologist shortages continue nationwide, new residents may be the key to solving ongoing staffing struggles.
