Here are four key notes:

1. IONSYS is the first needle-free, patient-controlled, pre-programmed fentanyl delivery system.

2. The medication is intended for the short-term management of acute postoperative pain in adult patients.

3. IONSYS allows patients recovering from surgery in the hospital to control their analgesic dosing by pushing a button to dispense fentanyl transdermally via an imperceptible electrical current as needed for pain.

4. IONSYS is not intended for home use.
