The Dec. 2011 issue of the journal features the work of the Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine. The only previous time the journal has concentrated an entire issue on one institution was last year, when it focused on Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.

The journal features more than 24 articles from Washington University faculty and covers everything from the use of clinical simulators in educating medical students and predictors of heart attack risk during surgery to the mechanisms through which nerve cells interact with steroid drugs. The journal also focuses on the management of chronic pain and the treatment of sepsis, among other topics.
