Chicago Medical Society names Dr. Vemuri Murthy president — 3 key notes

The Chicago Medical Society appointed anesthesiologist Vemuri Murthy, MD, its 169th president, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Dr. Murthy has been involved with the organization since 1983. He founded the CMS Community CPR Project and has raised awareness of sudden cardiac arrest throughout the Chicagoland area for several years.

2. Dr. Murthy is a past Oak Park, Ill.-based West Suburban Medical Center anesthesia department chairman and an Indian American Medical Association past president.

3. Dr. Murthy made an inaugural address on Sept. 12. He stressed the importance and need for active physician participation in medical societies.
