Douglas Hester, MD, of Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., participated in Vanderbilt University’s Lectures in the Library series, “Alternative Medicine: Poets Who Heal.”

1. Dr. Hester is an assistant professor of anesthesiology at Vanderbilt.

2. He uses poetry partly to process the stresses of his job. He is pursuing a master of fine arts at Murray (Ky.) State University.

3. He completed his anesthesiology residency at University of Alabama at Birmingham.
