The anesthesiologists emphasized their role in keeping the heart healthy, especially when a person with a defective heart is undergoing a procedure, and also encouraged patients to work toward a healthier heart.
“Patients also should discuss with their surgeon and anesthesiologist before suddenly stopping any medications before surgery and to make sure the anesthesiologist is aware of all the medications that they take,” said Allied physician Rajesh Bhat, MD, a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist.
