5 trends that defined 2019 for anesthesia groups

While each anesthesia practice faces distinct issues, certain trends affected the industry overall in 2019, according to Anesthesia Business Consultants President and CEO Tony Mira.

Five trends that defined the year for anesthesia groups:

1. The national opioid crisis leads to a drastic increase in the use of nerve blocks for postoperative pain management.

2. Negotiations with budget-strapped hospitals pose a major challenge for anesthesia practice managers.

3. Endoscopy is no longer the boon it was a few years ago.

4. Practices begin focusing on providing care at a lower cost rather than generating revenue.

5. An influx of venture capital funding makes it appealing to join a larger national staffing company.
