2-stage injection anesthesia technique reduces pediatric dental pain: 4 insights

New research has resulted in the development of a new two-stage injection technique to reduce pain from local anesthetic injections during dental work on children, according to an article published in Anesthesia Progress.

Here are four insights:

1. Researchers studied 100 children between 7 and 13 years of age who needed local anesthetic before dental treatment.

2. The children either received a conventional injection or a two-stage injection at their first appointment. After one week, each child received the other injection on the opposite side of the mouth.

3. The researchers found that the two-stage technique resulted in significantly lower pain levels compared to the conventional technique.

4. The authors concluded that the two-stage injection “is a simple and effective means of reducing injection pain in children.”
