Sasha Shillcutt, MD, was awarded the University of Nebraska Medical Center's New Investigator Award, according to an Washington County Pilot-Tribune & Enterprise report.

Here are four things to know:

1. University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha gives the award to UNMC scientists who have secured their first national funding.

2. Dr. Shillcutt is an associate professor in the department of anesthesiology at UNMC.

3. Dr. Shillcutt's current line of research focuses on the use of cardiac ultrasounds during surgery of patients with cardiovascular disease.

4. She has secured an NIH grant for her research.
