What employed physicians dislike most about their jobs

Almost half of employed physicians cite a loss of autonomy as the least favorite part of their job, according to Medscape’s Employed Physicians Report 2025, published Oct. 31.

The report is based on a survey of 823 employed physicians conducted between March 19 and June 3

Here’s what employed physicians said is the worst part of their job:

  • Less autonomy: 48%
  • Less income potential: 33%
  • More workplace rules: 31%
  • Company management: 30%
  • Mandatory performance targets: 27%
  • Lack of job security: 7%
  • Not as productive as I would like: 5%
  • Other: 2%
  • Nothing: 4%
