There were a total of 50,555 malpractice and disciplinary action reports in 2024, with 39,167 adverse action reports and remaining 11,388 medical malpractice payment reports according to an analysis from Claggett, Sykes & Garza Trial Lawyers.

Here’s a breakdown of the total reports by profession:

  • Registered nurse: 12,655
  • Physician (MD): 12,299
  • Practical nurse: 5,851
  • Therapists and counselors: 3,788
  • Technicians and assistants: 3,456
  • Nursing para-professionals: 2,889
  • Dentist: 2,205
  • Pharmacist: 1,417
  • Physician (DO): 1,385
  • Advanced practice nurse: 1,068
