ASC colorectal surgeon deploys incision-free method for hemorrhoid treatment: 3 insights

Colorectal surgeon Samuel Luka, MD, is using the THD Doppler Hemorrhoid System at Las Vegas-based Durango Outpatient Surgery Center to accelerate patients’ recovery, according to a June 5 announcement.

What you should know:

1. The doppler procedure doesn’t involve any tissue cutting or removal. Instead, Dr. Luka uses a self-absorbing suture to tie off the artery causing painful hemorrhoid symptoms.

2. Patients typically return to work or resume normal activities within a week of having the doppler procedure.

3. THD is an alternative to internal hemorrhoid treatment methods such as rubber band ligation, stapling or hemorrhoidectomy.
