Florida hit hardest by recent unemployment claims — how do other states stack up?

Nearly 43 million Americans have lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to WalletHub, a website offering free credit scores and full credit reports.

To identify areas hardest hit by COVID-19-related unemployment, WalletHub examined increases in unemployment claims for the 50 states and Washington, D.C. Numbers from the week of May 25 were compared to unemployment rates the week of March 16, when the coronavirus crisis began.

States most affected the week of May 25:

1. Florida
2. Georgia
3. Maine
4. Oklahoma
5. Mississippi
6. Kentucky
7. New Hampshire
8. Virginia
9. North Carolina
10. Maryland
