University Surgical Associates, a Rhode Island multidisciplinary surgical group, changed its name to Brown Surgical Associates Jan. 1.

The name change was enacted to better represent the partnership the practice has with Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical School in Providence, R.I.

“The decision supports the overarching mission to integrate care across the state to improve the quality of care for patients,” said William Cioffi, MD president of Brown Surgical Associates.

The group’s staff, locations and services remained the same following the name change. Brown Surgical Associates has 55 surgeons on staff, all of which are on the teaching faculty of the Warren Alpert Medical School.
