ASC leaders supervise fewer employees than they have in previous years, according to OR Manager’s 2019 Salary/Career Survey.

OR Manager collected data from 196 ASC leaders from March 28 to May 31. Respondents were either OR Manager subscribers or part of an external list.

Five insights:

1. Number of full-time equivalent employees supervised
2019: 32
2018: 37.34
2017: 39.83

2. Clinical versus nonclinical staff in 2019
Average number of clinical staff: 25
Average number of nonclinical staff: 7

3. Percent managing one to five operating rooms
2019: 77 percent
2018: 73 percent

4. Percent managing two ORs
2019: 24 percent

5. Percent managing more than 10 ORs
2019: 7 percent
2018: 3 percent
