PMA informed auditors of the potential closure on Aug. 7, but the practice is still considering other ways to resolve its operational and financial challenges, according to a statement spokesperson Mark Hubbard provided to WYFF News 4.
“Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to remain a financially viable company, we have been forced to consider closing operations,” Mr. Hubbard said.
In October 2018, FBI agents seized documents and interviewed staff during a raid of PMA locations in Easley, N.C., Greenville, S.C., and Spartanburg, N.C. The federal government later filed a lawsuit alleging the practices dispensed unnecessary opioid prescriptions and fraudulently billed Medicare and Medicaid.
PMA serves more than 20,000 patients in South Carolina.
