Louisiana Physician and Owner of Durable Medical Equipment Company Plead Guilty to Conspiring Together in Medicare Fraud Scheme

A family practitioner from New Orleans and the owner of a Baker, La.-based medical equipment company have pleaded guilty to conspiring to submit more than $775,000 fraudulent claims to Medicare, according to a news report from The Advertiser.

Dahlia Kirkpatrick, MD, has admitted to submitting false claims for prescriptions she had written for medically unnecessary medical equipment, including wheelchairs and feeding nutrients, supplied by Emmanuel Komandu, owner of Alpha Medical Solutions. Medicare has paid back more than $300,000 of the fraudulent claims submitted by Dr. Kirkpatrick, according to the report.
