What you should know:
1. CMS said health-related spending could make up nearly 20 percent of U.S. gross domestic product by 2027.
2. The 5.5 percent NHE growth rate is higher than spending during the Great Recession (2008-2013) and during the ACA’s major expansion (2014-2016).
3. However, the growth rate is slower than past NHE growth rates, especially when the rate off 7.3 percent from 1990 to 2007.
4. CMS projected an aging population will result in Medicare spending increasing 7.4 percent annually through the projection period. CMS projected Medicaid and private insurance spending would grow 5.5 percent and 4.8 percent, respectively.
