Ochsner Health System decreases knee surgery costs 32% in 6 months: 3 details

New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System detailed the outcomes of its partnership with Sight Medical to automate and redesign aspects of its orthopedic program across three hospitals, four surgeons and multiple vendors over the course of six months.

Here are the key details to know:

1. The automation of total knee replacement procedures resulted in a 32 percent direct cost savings compared to the traditional model, including various aspects of medical device surgical processes.

2. “The movement of orthopedic joints to an outpatient surgery setting enables our patients to return where Ochsner wants them to be – healthy and in the comfort of their own homes,” said Michael Louviere, system vice president of Ochsner Health System in a release. “The Sight platform has facilitated our supply chain to becoming further integrated with our surgeons and clinical teams. The new automated process has created tremendous value through collaboration with our participating orthopedic vendors.”

3. The automation technology was first deployed in 2016. It created a scalable and sustainable solutions for OR staff, surgeons and supply chain vendors.
