Coding tip of the day: The key to appealing denials is outsmarting payers

It’s critical to understand payer policies and regulatory requirements when appealing denials, according to SFM Mutual Insurance Company Bill Review Technical Specialist Michael Strong, CPC.

Mr. Strong shared the following tip with Medical Economics:

“Look at the remark codes, and address those specific edits. Don’t hand them back the same medical record. They’re just going to deny it again.”
