Here’s what you should know:
1. The current law requires outpatient surgical facilities to report an adverse event to the board at the most five days after the event has been detected. If the adverse event is ongoing or urgent, the center must report the event within 24 hours. Centers must also notify the patient when the report is made.
2. The new reporting requirements will require centers to transfer the patient to a hospital or emergency center for medical treatment following an adverse event.
3. The board also eliminated several adverse events that outpatient surgery facilities were previously required to report on. For more information on the eliminated standards, click here.
