Here’s what you should know:
1. CMS removed total knee arthroplasty from the inpatient-only list, which AAHKS agrees with. The organization said both physicians and patients have to choose the appropriate setting and time of discharge after a TKA, without the influence of payers.
2. AAHKS said they can only transition procedures off the inpatient-only list if CMS continues to closely monitors emerging data on the procedures.
3. The organization said in a release, “We appreciate the deliberate pace CMS has adopted to date in moving toward removal of TKA from the IPO. We encourage CMS to continue such thorough evaluation of stakeholder feedback and potential unintended consequences before moving forward with removing total hip arthroplasty or any other procedures from the IPO.”
