1. NIH hopes the initiative will change how meaningful data is collected and utilized.
2. NIH has two major goals with this program:
- To have 50 percent participation from racial and ethnic minority communities
- To have 75 percent of all participants from underrepresented research groups
3. For gastroenterologists, the data will be used to understand the correlation between prevalent GI disorders in diverse populations.
4. The information from the study will be funneled into a database that’ll be accessible to all, as long as privacy and security rules are followed.
NIH hopes, “researchers will use this data to achieve a wide range of medical breakthroughs.”
