Republicans healthcare bill defeated for 3rd time — 3 insights

Republican attempts to pass a “skinny” ACA repeal bill failed on May 28 after Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, and Susan Collins, R-Maine, voted against it, CNN reports.

1. President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and several key Republicans attempted to convince Mr. McCain to change his vote but were unsuccessful.

2. Mr. McCain reiterated his comments made on June 25 on the importance of developing a bill through a bipartisan committee process.

3. The “skinny” repeal would have eliminated the ACA’s individual and employer mandates. It also would have temporarily repealed the medical device tax.
