Here are four things to know:
1. The state approved North Carolina-based EmergeOrtho’s proposal to build a $4.2 million ASC with one operating room and two procedure rooms in Leland earlier in May.
2. Novant was competing with EmergeOrtho for the approval. The health system wanted to build a $14.1 million ASC and move an operating room from its hospital to the ASC.
3. EmergeOrtho’s proposal sought space for orthopedic procedures. Novant’s plan was more extensive, seeking space for orthopedics, general surgery, plastic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, ear, nose and throat, urology, ophthalmology and podiatry.
4. A judge will make a decision regarding Novant Health’s appeal within 270 days. The N.C. Court of Appeals could appeal the judge’s decision.
