Here are five things to know:

1. The new breast center will accommodate screening, mammograms, onsite radiology, pathology and other services.

2. Summit Surgery Center’s Executive Director Michelle Mays hopes the new breast center will ease patient care, as the typical model for services required patients to travel between buildings for care.

3. The center is designed to streamline care and reduce patient stress. Patients will have one access point to all services at the breast center.

4. A joint venture between Summit Surgery Center at Saint Mary’s Galena, Reno Tahoe Anesthesia Radiology Consultants and Aurora Diagnostics Western Pathology, the breast center is expected to begin seeing patients in June.

5. Summit Surgery Center didn’t hire any new staff members beyond its 34 current staff members, but could hire additional people as the center develops. The facility has a radioactive material license and purchased new equipment to include procedures such as pec blocks.
