Here are five notes:

1. The nonprofit committed $30 million to the ambulatory project.

2. Heritage Services is supporting the new clinic through the Veterans Ambulatory Center Development Corp.

3. The new VA facility will offer primary, specialty, radiology and ambulatory care. The outpatient clinic will also house surgical suites.

4. State legislators went back and forth for years about replacing the Omaha VA Hospital, which has served residents since 1950. In 2011, Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb, obtained Senate approval for a $56 million down payment to design a new facility. However, the project failed to come to fruition due to other VA construction projects’ cost overruns.

5. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry, R-Neb, told Live Well Nebraska the new building is “transformative and extraordinary.” He went on to say it was “a real tribute to a partnership between the Omaha community and our government to finally get things moving for our veterans.”
