9 quick statistics on nurse practitioners

There are more than 222,000 licensed nurse practitioners spanning the nation, according to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners’ data.

Here are eight more quick statistics to note:

1. Of licensed NPs, 96.2 percent have graduate degrees.

2. Almost 75 percent accept new Medicare patients and 77.9 percent accept new Medicaid patients.

3. Almost half (49.9 percent) of NPs have hospital privileges and 11.3 percent have long-term care privileges.

4. A good majority (95.8 percent) of NPs prescribe medications.

5. Full-time NPs write an average of 23 prescriptions a day.

6. NPs had a mean, full-time base salary totaling $102,526 last year.

7. The average NP is 49 years old.

8. Every hour, 60.7 percent of NPs see three or more patients.
