Here’s what you need to know:
1. ABIM recently released a statement detailing a new option for physicians maintaining board certification, which the organization said will increase flexibility for physician assessments. The new option is a two-year assessment, rather than a 10-year assessment.
2. AGA says that this assessment option does not address cost, personalization or the impact on patient care. For the past year, AGA — with other GI societies — has advocated for reforming maintenance of certification processes with a focus on personalized assessment.
3. AGA says it will continue working with GI and internal medicine societies to “bring about change that supports meaningful lifelong learning through the least intrusive means possible.”
