8 ASCs become AmSurg Innovator Centers

AmSurg honored eight surgery centers as AMSURG Innovator Centers at the AMSURG 2016 Center Leadership Conference.

The centers recognized were:

1. St. George (Utah) Endoscopy Center — This endoscopy center includes three physicians: James W. Brown, MD, Christopher Woerlein, MD, and Roger L. Siddoway, MD. Procedures at the center include colonoscopy, hemorrhoid banding and upper endoscopy.

2. Surgery Center of Long Beach (Calif.) — This surgery center is accredited by AAAHC and includes general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, pain management, spine surgery, retina surgery, ophthalmology and podiatry.

3. Surgery Center of Allentown (Pa.) — This freestanding surgery center includes gastroenterology, orthopedics, sports medicine, ophthalmology, ENT and pain management. The center has AAAHC accreditation.

4. Central Texas Endoscopy Center (Bryan, Texas) — This endoscopy center focuses on colon cancer screening and treating gastrointestinal issues. Procedures at the center include colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and upper endoscopy performed by one of the six affiliated physicians.

5. Cascade Endoscopy Center (Springfield, Ore.) — Sara Brendler, MD, and Nathan Markowitz, MD, developed the idea of this surgery center in 2003 and officially formed the partnership in 2004. Since then, three other physicians have joined the team focused on colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and upper endoscopy.

6. Airport Endoscopy Center (Los Angeles) — This surgery center includes five physicians who perform colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and upper endoscopy. Key staff at the center are Karely Deal and Marie Gamble.

7. St. Cloud (Minn.) Center for Ophthalmic Surgery — This freestanding surgery center is focused on eye procedures. There are three physicians that perform several procedures, including cataract surgery, corneal transplants, IOLs and refractive surgery.

8. Schuylkill Endoscopy Center (Pottsville, Pa.) — This surgery center focuses on gastroenterology and includes two physicians: Amrit P.S. Narula, MD, and Stephen Slusser, MD. Key staff at the center include Nicholas A. Pellish, RN, and Michelle A. Lescavage, BSN.

The program is AmSurg’s gold standard best practice education program; centers recognized implemented distinct measures to improve operations.
