Lakeland Health transforms to ASC & performs robotic surgery with da Vinci Xi surgical system — 4 takeaways

St. Joseph, Mich.-based Lakeland Health recently converted to an ambulatory surgery center and began offering robotic surgery via the da Vinci Xi surgical system, according to The Herald-Palladium.

Here are four takeaways:

1. In April, Lakeland Health’s board of directors gave approval to buy the health system’s third da Vinci Xi surgical robot.

2. Roy Winslow, MD, performed the center’s first of four Xi surgeries.

3. Lakeland Health’s nearly 15 board-certified robotic surgeons have performed 1,829 surgeries with the da Vinci robot, so far.

4. The robotic system are intended to facilitate a quicker recovery, smaller incision, less pain and shorter hospital stays.
