Cost drivers sparking insurance hikes — Outpatient procedures rank as #6

Employees will pay 5 percent more, on average, next year to get health insurance, a National Business Group on Health survey found, according to The Fiscal Times.

National Business Group of Health polled employers who ranked their three biggest cost drivers. The following factors are the top drivers of insurance hikes among respondents.

Here are six drivers:

1. High cost claimants: 32 percent

2. Specialty pharmacy: 31 percent

3. Specific disease or conditions: 17 percent

4. Overall medical inflation: 11 percent

5. Hospitalization: 2 percent

6. Outpatient procedures: 2 percent
