Here are five key notes on the updates:
1. The new requirements are applicable for facilities accredited under the Behavioral Health Care Accreditation Program and effective on July 1, 2016.
2. The new guidelines align with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Federal Guidelines for Opioid Treatment Programs.
3. The changes are necessary for The Joint Commission to retain its approved accrediting body for opioid treatment programs.
4. The federal regulations waive the one-year history of addiction for individuals in a special patient population with a history of opioid use but aren’t currently physiologically dependent, due to the susceptibility of relapse to opioid addiction. Click here for full program requirements.
