Here are four points:
1. Plans in the Southeastern region on the United States received lower “star ratings.”
2. When researchers adjusted the rating system for geographic location, 20 percent of states rose in the rankings and 24 percent fell.
3. Geographic location accounted for 59.5 percent of the variation in the plans’ ratings.
4. “These findings suggest that the effect of geography on the plans’ ratings is not trivial, and should be considered in future comparison of plans,” said Lewis Kazis, SD, professor of health policy and management at BUSPH.
