The northeast region of the United States has the highest percentage of malpractice lawsuits resulting in monetary awards over $500,000, according to the Medscape Malpractice Report 2015: Why Most Doctors Get Sued.

Here are the percentages of monetary awards over $500,000 in accordance with U.S. region:

•    Northeast — 18 percent
•    Northwest — 15 percent
•    Mid-Atlantic — 14 percent
•    Southwest — 12 percent
•    Great Lakes — 11 percent
•    Southeast — 9 percent
•    West — 8 percent
•    South Central — 7 percent
•    North Central — 5 percent
