Here are five notes:

1. Orthopedic surgeon Rep. Julio Gonzalez, MD, R-Venice, raised several issues concerning the bill. Rep. Gonzalez asked Rep. Pigman what types of injections should be allowed, as well as the nature of a pharmacist’s relationship with a physician.

2. Rep. Gonzalez also questioned the appropriateness of the bill.

3. Contrary to the norm, Rep. Pigman stopped the meeting several time so legislators could write proposed amendments and discuss them. In the state Capitol, legislators rarely offer bills unless they have a majority of committee members ready to vote in favor of the bill.

4. Florida legislators postponed the bill after hearing Rep. Gonzalez’s reservations. Rep. Pigman tweeted he will bring the bill back, indicating behind-the-scenes negotiations are likely to ensue.

5. On Tuesday, Rep. Gonzalez pushed forth a different bill allowing advanced registered nurse practitioners and physician assistants to prescribe medications. The House passed the bill, and Rep. Gonzalez voted in favor of the bill.
