GI physician leader to know: Dr. Michael Lucey of University of Wisconsin Health

Michael R. Lucey, MD, is chief of the division of gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Wisconsin Health in Madison. He is also a professor of gastroenterology/hepatology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. His clinical interests include colonoscopy, EGD with control of bleeding, liver biopsy and liver transplant.

Dr. Lucey is board-certified in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology. His research interests include alcoholic liver disease, viral hepatitis as well as care of patients before and after liver transplantation. His work has been published in a number of journals, such as Gut, Gastroenterology, Liver Transplantation and Hepatology.

Dr. Lucey earned his medical degree at the University of Dublin in Ireland and he completed his residency The Federated Dublin Voluntary Hospitals/ St. Vincent’s Hospital, both located in Dublin. He has also completed fellowships at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital/ Kings College Hospital in London, England and University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
