The survey covers more than 20,000 physicians in more than 180 practices and 320 individual sites of service. The researchers found 80 percent of the facilities include a qualitative or operational component in their compensation plans for at least some of the employed physician compensation Nearly all, 90 percent, of primary care, medical specialty and surgical specialty physicians have a productivity-based component to their compensation plan.
There has been a clear shift from volume to value-based care, which creates increasingly complex physician compensation models. The survey also includes findings on productivity and pay practices for employed physicians.
