Dr. Al-Awabdy has a professional interest in general gastroenterology, liver disease and therapeutic endoscopy. He has served as an instructor for the University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Medicine’s introductory course to clinical medicine. His research includes examining the use of removable self-expanding metal stents for benign esophageal diseases. His work was published in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He also chartered and led a student-run free clinic for uninsured workers and volunteered at other clinics during medical school.
Dr. Al-Awabdy completed his medical degree at Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Ga., and his residency in internal medicine at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
