Dr. Podolsky has previously served as the Mallinckrodt Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, the chief of gastroenterology at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Chief Academic Officer of Partners HealthCare System, all located in Boston. He has authored more than 300 original research and review articles. He is the past editor-in-chief of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Podolsky’s research interests include epithelial cell biology, inflammatory bowel disease, innate immunity, mucosal biology and trefoil proteins. His laboratory has made contributions to understanding the mechanisms through which growth factors and cytokines regulate epithelial function. In 2009, he received the Julius Friedenwald Medal for Distinguished Service.
Dr. Podolsky earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School in Boston. He completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
