One of the four appointees is Alfred McNair Jr., MD, owner of Digestive Health Center in Ocean Springs, Miss. Dr. McNair is also the president and founder of Mississippi Coast Physicians, as well as chief of medical staff at Biloxi (Miss.) Regional Medical Center.
“A healthy Mississippi is an educated Mississippi,” said Dr. McNair, according to the report. “Our manifest destiny as a state is intertwined with our ability to offer affordable, accessible and academically challenging higher educational opportunities to our citizens.”
Dr. McNair and three other appointees will take the place of four outgoing board members of the 12-member board. The State Institutions of Higher Learning oversees eight public institutions of higher learning.
