How Meaningful Use Stage 2’s Extension Affects ICD-10

CMS’ extension of the Meaningful Use Stage 2 attestation deadline reaffirms that the ICD-10 Oct. 1, 2014, deadline is not going to change, according to a Healthcare IT News report.

Experts said the agency knew practices would struggle to meet both ICD-10 and Stage 2 standards by October, while also juggling the HIPAA Omnibus Rule and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Stage 2’s delay means there is very little chance ICD-10 will be further delayed.
