The study was conducted in Sweden, where celiac disease rates are twice as high as in the United States. Researchers analyzed records of 290,000 people who had intestinal biopsies. Of those, 27,000 had celiac disease; 12,000 had inflammation without celiac; and 3,700 had immune reactions to wheat proteins.
After comparing these results with that of 213,000 people with autism who had biopsies with normal results, researchers decided there was no link between the two.
