The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has compiled data from the 2012 CAHPS Clinician & Group Surveys on patient experience in physicians’ offices.

Here are 20 statistics from the 12-month adult survey by practice ownership and affiliation.

1. Getting timely appointments, care and information. Here are the percentages of patients who responded “always” to five questions on receiving timely care.

National average: 63 percent
Practices owned/affiliated with hospital or integrated delivery system: 68 percent
Practices owned/affiliated with university or academic medical center: 61 percent
Other: 63 percent

2. How well providers communicate with patients. Here are the percentages of patients who responded “always” to six questions on how often providers communicated well with them.

National average: 84 percent
Practices owned/affiliated with hospital or integrated delivery system: 86 percent
Practices owned/affiliated with university or academic medical center: 84 percent
Other: 83 percent

3. Provider’s office followed up with test results. Here are the percentages of patients who responded “always” to the question about provider follow-up with test results.

National average: 74 percent
Practices owned/affiliated with hospital or integrated delivery system: 75 percent
Practices owned/affiliated with university or academic medical center: 67 percent
Other: 77 percent
 
4. Rating of provider. Here are the percentages of patients who rated their provider a nine or 10 on a scale from zero to 10, with 10 representing the most satisfaction.

National average: 79 percent
Practices owned/affiliated with hospital or integrated delivery system: 82 percent
Practices owned/affiliated with university or academic medical center: 80 percent
Other: 78 percent

5. Helpful, courteous and respectful office staff. Here are the percentages of patients who responded “always” to two questions on how often staff communicated well with them.

National average: 78 percent
Practices owned/affiliated with hospital or integrated delivery system: 84 percent
Practices owned/affiliated with university or academic medical center: 75 percent
Other: 78 percent
