Survey: 62% Employers Altering Retiree Health Strategies

A recent report from Aon Hewitt showed employers are looking to control costs by moving coverage of employees 65 and older from their group plan to the individual Medicare market or a Medicare Advantage plan, according to a Healthcare Finance News report.

A survey of 548 companies included the following results:

•    62 percent of employers are reassessing and altering long-term retiree health strategies.
•    34 percent favor a defined contribution on the public exchange.
•    30 percent want to eliminate pre-65 retiree coverage and subsidies.
