FMT is considered to be an effective method of relieving symptoms and eliminating resistant or recurrent C. diff infections. The transplantation is performed by a board-certified surgeon at Los Angeles Colon and Rectal Surgical Associates.
Allen Kamrava, MD, Gary Hoffman, MD, Eiman Firoozmand, MD, Liza Capiendo, MD, and Stephen Yoo, MD, have established an FMT protocol which involves taking a stool sample from a healthy individual and transplanting it into the colon of the infected patient. Approximately 98 percent of C. diff cases treated in this manner have been cured, making FMT the most successful treatment for this condition.
