Charter Oak Health Improves Infection Control; Can Keep Medicare Funding

CMS officials said Charter Oak Health Center in Hartford, Conn., can keep its Medicare status after finding the facility is back in compliance with federal standards for patient safety, according to a Hartford Courant report.

CMS investigated the health center in February and found it poorly managed a case of tuberculosis, its infection control committee had not met for 15 months and employees were not aware of infection control policy. Consequently, the federal agency deemed Charter Oak Health had until March 9 to improve its infection control program.

A follow-up inspection of the facility by state surveyors showed the health center is back in compliance with CMS standards.
