The report features aggregated performance data for six ASC facility-level quality measures developed by the ASCQC and endorsed by the National Quality Forum. They are as follows:
- Patient fall in the ASC
- Patient burn
- Hospital transfer/admission
- Wrong site, side, patient, procedure, implant
- Prophylactic IV antibiotic timing
- Appropriate surgical site hair removal
The report includes data from 1,314 ASC, representing 855 multi-specialty ASCs and 459 single-specialty ASCs.
ASCs saw an increase in the rate of patient falls for the third quarter of 2011 over the second quarter of 2011, increasing to 0.141 falls per 1,000 admissions in the third quarter from 0.137 per 1,000 admissions in the second quarter. The rate of patient burns declined to 0.031 per 1,000 admissions in the third quarter from 0.036 per 1,000 admissions in the second quarter.

The rate of hospital transfers per 1,000 admissions and rate of wrong site, side, patient, procedure, implant events per 1,000 admissions both increased in the third quarter over the second quarter. Hospital transfers increased to 1.143, up from 1.067, and wrong site, side, etc., increased to 0.039 from 0.031.
The following organizations collected and submitted clinical quality data reflecting patient admissions from July 1, 2011, through Sept. 30, 2011: ASC Association; Ambulatory Surgical Centers of America; AmSurg; Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program; Health Inventures; HCA Ambulatory Surgery Division; Nueterra; Surgical Care Affiliates; Symbion and United Surgical Partners International.
